Johan Hansson
Johan is one of the most experienced publishers in the relatively new world of free daily newspapers. He is former managing director for North America for Metro International, where he oversaw Metro’s newspapers in Boston and Philadelphia and the launch of Metro New York, the company’s largest startup ever. As such, Johan was a member of Metro’s executive management.
Johan has extensive experience in launching and turning around free daily newspapers around the world. As publisher, he launched Metro Hong Kong, one of the company’s most successful editions, which reached profitability in 14 months in an intensely competitive market. Hansson also was charged with turning around Metro Holland and Metro Poland, where he implemented a plan for a national edition based in Warsaw. He served as publisher of Metro Philadelphia while running Metro North America, crafting a strategy for repositioning the Philadelphia newspaper to better appeal to that city’s young professionals. Johan has undertaken various other projects for Metro in Mexico and South America.
Before joining Metro, Johan was country manager in the United Kingdom for STS Language Schools. As such he was responsible for operations in the UK and Ireland for STS, one of Europe’s largest language schools with more than 13,000 students.
Johan is a graduate of Sweden’s Lund University. He also attended Military College in Linkoping, Sweden, and served as a lieutenant in the Swedish Army Reserve.
